Dyslexia Test for Kids

To screen for dyslexia, the primary “test” that I use is a child’s writing sample. A writing sample will give me all the information that I need. I am not able to diagnose dyslexia. However, I can determine during an initial consultation with parents if a child displays signs of dyslexia. Screening tools will also indicate if a child would benefit from explicit instruction on reading and spelling.

Standardized Level B Assessments

I am qualified to administer standardized, Level B assessments (which assess academic achievement). However, while much can be learned from Level B tests, I am not a big proponent of assessing a child simply to determine what I already know from the writing sample and a consultation with parents. If more information is required, further assessments can be discussed and administered.
